YOUNGSVILLE, La. – HCU beach went 1-1 on day two of the Southland Conference Mid-Season Tournament at Sugar Beach on Sunday, defeating New Orleans before falling to McNeese.
HCU (4-16, 3-3 SLC) began day two with a 3-2 victory over New Orleans (?-?, ?-? SLC). The Huskies got a win on Court 3 in two sets (21-13, 21-12) from the duo of
Alexa Landmark and
Lauren Vickery while Court 2 went to
Grace Melnick and
Paige Palmer in three (14-21, 21-19, 15-11). The deciding point came at the fives with
Dariya Tlevlessova and
Claudia Verdejo Lozano earning an exciting three-set win that went to extra points (22-24, 21-10, 16-14).
Later in the afternoon, The Cowgirls (15-4, 4-2 SLC) downed HCU by a 3-2 final. The Huskies' points came on Courts 2 and 3 with Palmer and Melnick winning at the two, 21-15, 21-6, and the duo of Landmark and Vickery pulled out a three-set win (21-13, 18-21, 15-10).
HCU heads to Austin, Texas in two weeks for the Texas Longhorn Showdown on Friday and Saturday, Apr. 3-4, with duals against Tulane, Washington and Texas. YOUNGSV
