HCU will face off against five conference opponents in Louisiana

YOUNGSVILLE, La. – The HCU beach volleyball squad is set to travel to Sugar Beach for the Southland Mid-Season Tournament this weekend with five matches scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

The Huskies (1-14) faced stiff competition last weekend at the Stanford Invitational, facing four top-20 teams, and will look to get back on track against a handful of SLC opponents.

First, HCU will face SFA (4-6) on Saturday at 9:00 a.m.. The Sandyjacks are coming off of three loses at their last tournament, falling to Tarleton State, ULM and Arizona State University. In the loss to Tarleton, Gabrielle Damborowiski and Annabella Howerton earned a point for SFA on Court 3.

In the early afternoon on Saturday, the Huskies will face the Southeastern Lions (6-9) who took home a 3-2 record at the Tulane Bayou Beach Duals last weekend followed by a win at home against Spring Hill on Mar. 17. The Lion pair of Makayla Hicks and Cadie Kusy were recently named Southland Conference Pair of the Week and own a current five-match winning streak on court two.

To end the first day of the Southland Mid-Season Tournament, HCU will close against the Nicholls Colonels (6-8).  Arianna Matallana and Brooklynn Wilkinson took home a 2-2 record at the Green Wave Invitational last weekend, the best on the Colonel squad.

The first match for HCU on Sunday will start at 11:00 a.m. against New Orleans (4-8).  The Privateers currently own a 2-0 conference record leading into the tournament with wins over SFA and SLU. The pair of Brooke Dow and Ashley Salazar head into this tournament with an 8-2 record from Court 2.

The Huskies will finish the tournament on Sunday afternoon by facing a strong McNeese (12-3) squad.  With their current record, the Cowgirls are off to the best start in program history. Gracie Behneke and Breanna Cagle own a competitive 12-3 record on Court 4 this season.

Seeding for the Southland Conference Tournament in late April will be set following the conclusion of the Southland Mid-Season Tournament as teams head into the final stretch of the regular season.
