BVB: HCU Goes 2-1 on Day One of SLC Mid-Season

The Huskies had two pairs go 3-0 on the day



YOUNGSVILLE, La. – HCU beach posted a 2-1 record on the first day of the Southland Conference Mid-Season Tournament on Saturday at Sugar Beach, earning wins over SFA and Nicholls.
 
HCU (3-15, 2-2 SLC) began the day with a strong 4-1 win over Stephen F. Austin (4-8, 1-3 SLC). The pairing of Hannah Foor and Olivia Zeigler made quick work of their opponents on Court 1, winning in two sets (21-10, 21-19) while Grace Melnick and Paige Palmer earned a 21-12, 21-14 win on Court 2 to put the Huskies ahead, 2-0. On Court 5, Dariya Tlevlessova and Claudia Verdejo Lozano secured the match-winning third point with a 21-17, 21-13 victory. SFA picked up its point on Court 4 while Alexa Landmark and Lauren Vickery earned a three-set win (21-19, 18-21, 15-4) on Court 3.
 
In their second match of the day, the Huskies fell to Southeastern (7-10, 3-2 SLC) by a 3-2 final. HCU's points came on Courts 1 and 2 with Melnick and Palmer taking a two-set victory (22-20, 21-18) at the twos while Foor and Zeigler pulled out a three-set win (9-21, 21-16, 15-7).
 
The Huskies' final dual of the day was a 5-0 sweep of Nicholls (6-8, 0-4 SLC). Landmark and Vickery won on Court 3 in two sets (21-12, 21-13) while Tlevlessova and Verdejo Lozano also earned a two-set victory (21-10, 21-18) on Court 5. HCU's other three points all came in three sets. Foor and Zeigler won at the ones, 17-21, 21-15, 15-9. On Court 2, Melnick and Palmer picked up a point with a hard-fought 23-25, 21-14, 15-10 win and the duo of Allie Patton and Mycah Whittemore won on Court 4, 18-21, 21-17, 15-6.
 
The Huskies finish out the SLC Mid-Season Tournament on Sunday, Mar. 22, with matches against New Orleans and McNeese.
