AUSTIN, Texas – After a weekend off, the HCU beach team returns to action this weekend at the Texas Longhorn Showdown at the Wright-Whitaker Sports Complex.
Due to expected inclement weather across much of Texas on Saturday, Apr. 4, the four teams will each play three duals on Friday, Apr. 3, with a fourth and final matchup for each team taking place on Saturday with pairings decided based on Friday's results. The Huskies (4-16) will take on No. 19 Washington (12-8) at 8:00 a.m. followed by third-ranked Texas (16-6) at 2:00 p.m. and Tulane (14-8) at 4:00 p.m.
HCU last competed at the SLC Mid-Season Tournament, going 3-2 against conference opponents. The Huskies went 3-3 in SLC matches this season, setting themselves up as the No. 4 seed for the SLC Tournament later in the month.
Washington also had last weekend off after going 4-0 at the St. Mary's Spring Fling in Moraga, Calif. The Huskies won twice against both St. Mary's and Pacific. HCU and Washington met on Mar. 14 at the Stanford Invitational with UW defeating HCU, 5-0.
The Longhorns enter the weekend in the AVCA top-five with all six of their losses coming against top-10 opponents. Last weekend, Texas hosted a tournament completely comprised of top-10 teams, defeating No. 1 UCLA, No. 3 USC and No. 10 Long Beach State while falling to No. 2 Stanford.
Two weeks ago, Tulane traveled to Malibu, Calif. for the ASICS Classic hosted by Pepperdine, going 3-1 on the weekend. The Green Wave picked up wins against Pepperdine, Concordia – Irvine and Vanguard with a loss to No. 8 Loyola Marymount.
The Huskies will host a pair of matches on Tuesday, Apr. 7, at Third Coast with Mary Hardin-Baylor and Concordia making the trip down to Houston. HCU will face UMHB at 10:00 a.m. before playing Concordia at 3:00 p.m.
