SUGAR LAND, Texas – The men's golf team completed 36 holes on Monday at the Colin Montgomerie–HCU Invitational and is sitting in second place heading into Tuesday's final round at Sweetwater Country Club.
HCU's A Team posted rounds of 279 and 281 to finish the day at 8-under par (560), trailing only Howard University at 21-under. Midland CC (+6) and Weber State (+7) follow behind the Huskies entering the final 18 holes of the 54-hole event.
Brooks Pawlak leads the way for HCU at 5-under through two rounds after opening the tournament with a 67 and adding a 70 in round two.
Brendon Willey sits at 3-under (70-68—138) after two steady rounds, while
Mason Napier also remains under par through 36 holes to provide key counting scores for the Huskies.
Clayton Smith opened with a 69 and stands at 2-over heading into Tuesday, and
Carter Patterson rounds out the A Team lineup at 3-over after contributing in both rounds of Monday's 36-hole format.
Houston Christian's B Team sits in 10th place at 21-over par (289-300—589) after two rounds.
Cooper Camp leads the B Team at 1-over (71-72—143), followed by
Roy Barrera at 4-over (73-75—148).
Julian Worrell and
Tyler Joines are both at 5-over (147), and
Benjamin Dabos rounds out the B Team lineup after two rounds.
The Huskies will conclude the tournament Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at Sweetwater Country Club, with the A Team grouped alongside players from Howard University, Midland CC and Weber State in the final wave.
