SUGAR LAND, Texas – The HCU men's golf team finished second at the Colin Montgomerie–HCU Invitational on Tuesday at Sweetwater Country Club's Cypress Course, posting a three-round total of 848 (-4) after rounds of 279, 281 and 288. Howard University claimed the team title at 835 (-17), while Southeastern Louisiana finished third at 864 (+12).
Brendon Willey led the Huskies with a runner-up finish, carding a three-round total of 201 (-12). Willey closed the tournament with a final-round 68, highlighted by birdies on holes 6, 9, 10, 12 and 18 to secure one of the top individual finishes of the event.
Mason Napier finished tied for 13th overall at 214 (+1) after rounds of 69, 75 and a final-round 70.
Clayton Smith added a tie for 49th with a 74 on Tuesday to finish at 224 (+11).
Carter Patterson finished with a three-round total of 223 (+10) after posting a final-round 76, while
Brooks Pawlak rounded out the Huskies' counting lineup with a 79 in the final round to finish at 219 (+3).
Competing as individuals for HCU's B team,
Roy Barrera IV and
Tyler Joines each finished at 218 (+7) after both posted final-round 73s. John "Cooper" Camp carded a 75 on Tuesday to finish at 220 (+9), while
Julian Worrell finished at 231 (+12) and
Benjamin Dabos closed the event at 245 (+53).
The Huskies will return to action March 16–17 when they compete in the All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
