MGOLF: HCU Finishes 12th After Two Rounds at Border Olympics

Willey leads the Huskies at even-par through 36 holes at Laredo CC

LAREDO, Texas – Houston Christian wrapped up two rounds at the Border Olympics on Monday at Laredo Country Club, finishing 12th in a 13-team field at +16 (576).

Brendon Willey paced the Huskies, carding rounds of 71 and 68 to sit at even par through 36 holes. After an opening-round 71, Willey posted a three-under 68 in the second round, highlighted by birdies on Nos. 6, 14 and 16. He will enter Tuesday's final round inside the top 10 individually.

Brooks Pawlak turned in HCU's other under-par round of the day, firing a three-under 68 in Round 2. Pawlak recorded birdies on Nos. 6, 10 and 17 to move to +3 overall (145).

Roy Barrera IV finished the day at +9 (151), following a first-round 73 with a 78 in the second round. Mason Napier posted rounds of 71 and 80 to sit at +9 (151), while Carter Patterson carded a 78 in both rounds and stands at +14 (156).

As a team, the Huskies shot 292 in the opening round and 284 in the second round, improving by eight strokes in the afternoon session.

Host Houston leads the tournament at one-under par, followed by Lamar (+2) and North Texas (+3).

HCU returns to the course Tuesday morning for the final round, teeing off at 8:00 a.m. alongside UTRGV, Sam Houston and Troy.
