LAREDO, Texas – The Houston Christian men's golf team returns to action Monday and Tuesday at the Border Olympics, hosted by Houston at Laredo Country Club.
The 54-hole tournament will feature 13 teams, including Illinois State, Houston, UTRGV, Louisiana, New Mexico State, Tarleton State, Troy, Wichita State, Sam Houston, Lamar, North Texas and Wright State. Both rounds on Monday begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start, followed by the final round Tuesday.
HCU's lineup will include
Brooks Pawlak,
Carter Patterson,
Brendon Willey,
Roy Barrera IV and
Mason Napier.
Pawlak leads the Huskies with a 72.9 scoring average across 15 rounds and has recorded eight par-or-better rounds this season. He posted a 65 in the final round at La Tour Intercollegiate and most recently finished ninth at the Bentwater Intercollegiate.
Napier carries a 74.1 average and turned in a season-best 205 (-11) at La Tour, including a 65 in round two. Patterson holds a 74.2 scoring average with a low round of 68 this season and four top-20 finishes. Willey has three par-or-better rounds this year and owns a low 54-hole total of 217, while Barrera returns to the lineup after opening his season with a 69 at Bayou City.
As a team, the Huskies have posted four rounds of 289 or better this season, highlighted by a 278 in the final round at La Tour Intercollegiate. HCU most recently placed eighth at the Bentwater Intercollegiate.
