MONTGOMERY, Texas – The Houston Christian University men's golf team wrapped up the Bentwater Intercollegiate Tuesday with a final round of +15 (303) to finish eighth in the 14-team field at +30 (894) at Bentwater Country Club.
VCU and host Sam Houston finished tied at +5 after 54 holes, with the Rams claiming the team title in a playoff on the 18th hole. Central Arkansas placed third at +11, followed by East Texas A&M at +13.
Brooks Pawlak led the Huskies for the tournament, finishing tied for ninth at +1 (214) after closing with an even-par 71. Pawlak played the front nine in 34 (–1) with a birdie on the par-4 seventh and added another on the par-5 11th. He finished with 13 pars in the round to secure HCU's lone top-10 individual result.
Carter Patterson tied for 35th at +9 (222) following a final-round 74. Patterson recorded three birdies on the day, including back-to-back on Nos. 17 and 18, and played his last six holes at 2-under to move up the leaderboard.
Mason Napier finished tied for 48th at +12 (225) after a 77 Tuesday. Napier made birdies on Nos. 4 and 9 on the front side and added another at the par-3 17th while posting 10 pars.
John "Cooper" Camp also tied for 48th at +12 (227) with a closing 77. Camp birdied the par-3 eighth and added two more on the back nine, including the par-5 15th, to highlight his round.
Brendon Willey rounded out the lineup tied for 48th at +12 (225) after an 80 in the final round. Willey recorded birdies on the par-3 fourth and par-5 18th to close the tournament.
HCU opened the event with rounds of 293-298 on Monday before Tuesday's 303. The Huskies finished two shots behind Ohio and six back of a top-five result in a tightly packed middle of the standings.
The Huskies return to action next week at the Border Olympics, Feb. 16-17, in Laredo, Texas.
