WGOLF: Huskies Finish Third at Texas State Invitational

Ferrer Leads HCU to Third-Place Finish in Spring Opener

SAN MARCOS, Tx. - The HCU women's golf team closed the Texas State Invitational with a third-place finish Tuesday at Landa Park Municipal Golf Course, posting a 54-hole total of 875 (296-281-298). The Huskies finished behind host Texas State and Tarleton State to open the spring season with a strong team performance.

Alejandra Ferrer led the way for HCU, finishing fourth overall at four-under par after a final-round 74. Ferrer remained in contention throughout the day, recording birdies on holes five and nine on the front nine and adding another on 14. Her opening rounds of 71 and 67 helped secure the highest individual finish of her collegiate career and anchored the Huskies' lineup.

Sara Pihlajamaki made a move up the leaderboard with a two-over 74 to finish tied for 22nd at eight-over. She highlighted her round with a birdie on the sixth and played steady golf down the stretch to card a team-best 37 on the back nine.

Natcha Makmanee finished 19th overall at seven-over following a final-round 75. Makmanee recorded a birdie on the sixth and played consistently on the back nine to secure her second top-20 finish of the season.

Hailey Hendershott closed with a 75 to tie for 22nd at eight-over. After an early birdie on the first, she added another on 15 and provided another counting score for the Huskies.

Alyssa Stewart rounded out the lineup with an 81, finishing 34th at 13-over for the tournament.

Competing as individuals, Serena Churchill delivered a standout performance, shooting a one-over 73 to finish 10th overall at three-over par, the highest individual result of her career. Abigail O'Brien carded a 77 to tie for 22nd at eight-over, while Abigail Inocian finished with a 79 to place 44th at 16-over.

HCU will return to action Feb. 16–17 at the Islanders Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas.
