WACO, Texas – Houston Christian University's
Sara Pihlajamaki carded a 76 in the third and final round of the Waco NCAA Regional on Wednesday held at Ridgewood Country Club.
For the tournament, Pihlajamaki ends the three days at a +14, 224 total (78-70-76) to give her a 50
th place finish in the 65-player field.
Starting on hole 10 for the third straight day, round three began promisingly for the native of Finland as she posted seven pars on the back nine. After the turn to the front nine, she proceeded to par the first five holes before going five over on the final four to end the afternoon and the tournament.
The third Southland Conference Individual Champion in program history, Pihlajamaki closes out her rookie campaign with a 75.28 average over 35 rounds played on the year. She earned first-team All-SLC honors while being chosen as the SLC Freshman of the Year for the Huskies, the second straight season for HCU to capture that accolade.
