COMMERCE, Texas – The HCU women's basketball team heads to east Texas on Thursday evening for a 6:30 p.m. Southland Conference matchup against East Texas A&M as the Huskies embark on their final road trip of the 2025-26 campaign.
The Huskies (7-17, 5-12 SLC) earned a 65-52 win over the Lions on Jan. 17 in Sharp Gym, outscoring East Texas A&M 41-26 in the second half to secure the victory. It marked HCU's largest margin of victory in all-time series against the Lions. Freshman
Kamryn McLaurin led HCU with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting off the bench while also connecting on 4-of-4 from the foul line.
Hannah Fields finished the game a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor for 11 points.
HCU is coming off a 68-57 home win over New Orleans last Saturday that secured the season sweep of the Privateers. The last time the Huskies swept both games against UNO in a season was the 2022-23 season. Sophomore
Madison Hurta led all players with a season-high 17 points, going 6-of-11 from the floor and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.
Grace Booth added 12 while
Jo Oly matched her career-high with 11 rebounds and added eight points.
East Texas A&M (12-12, 8-9 SLC) has lost its last two games, including a 60-51 loss on the road to Northwestern State this past Monday. Tiani Ellison accounted for 21 of the team's 51 points and also led the Lions with eight rebounds. Ellison leads the Lions on the season with 15.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game while Reza Po adds 13.5 points per contest and is shooting over 41 percent from three-point range.
The Huskies are currently in ninth place, three games behind East Texas A&M and Nicholls who are both tied for seventh, with five games left to play.
Following Thursday's contest, the Huskies will continue on to Natchitoches, La. to face Northwestern State on Saturday, Feb. 21, inside Prather Coliseum for the team's final road game of the year.
