CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The HCU women's basketball team continues its Southland Conference road stretch on Saturday afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. tip-off against the Texas A&M–Corpus Christi Islanders at the Hilliard Center.
Saturday marks the first meeting between the two teams this season.
HCU (5–14, 3–9 SLC) is coming off a Thursday evening loss at UT Rio Grande Valley. Junior
Tove Caesar's nine points led the Huskies. The Huskies are looking to snap a three-game losing skid since a 65-52 win over East Texas A&M on Jan. 17.
Texas A&M–Corpus Christi (4-15, 3-9 SLC) is coming of a 70-64 home win over UIW on Thursday, overcoming an 11-point deficit to fight back and earn the victory. Junior guard Asha Walker scored a career-high 27 points to lead the Islanders while senior Marissa Shelton added 21 points. The Islanders out-rebounded the Cardinals in the win, 47-32.
Senior guard Samora Watson leads TAMUCC with 13 points per game but has missed the team's last four contests. Senior K'Nari Holliday is leading the way on the boards, pulling down six rebounds per game.
Freshman
Kamryn McLaurin continues to pace the Huskies offensively, contributing 12.2 ppg while shooting 45 percent (72-of-160) from the floor. Caesar, a junior guard, is leading HCU with 2.5 assists per game with a total of 47 after contributing a total of 17 assists the previous two seasons.
Saturday's game is game two of a four-game road swing for the Huskies. HCU will next travel to face the McNeese Cowgirls on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 6:30 p.m. in Lake Charles, followed by a Saturday, Feb. 7, matchup at Southeastern in Hammond at 1:00 p.m.
