HOUSTON – HCU women's basketball returns to Sharp Gym on Thursday evening, hosting Northwestern State in Southland Conference play at 6:00 p.m. to begin a four-game homestand following a stretch of nine games that included seven contests away from home.
The Huskies (4–10, 2–5 SLC) come back home after a challenging start to conference play that has seen each of their SLC losses come to teams with winning record in league play, most recently falling at SFA. HCU owns a 3–1 record inside Sharp Gym this season and looks to return to the win column and snap a six-game losing skid.
Kamryn McLaurin continues to pace the Huskies at 12.9 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field and doing the majority of her work this season as a threat coming off the bench. The freshman has excelled at getting to the foul line, attempting more than twice as many free throws as anyone else on the team while also leading the team with 27 steals.
Grace Booth adds 11.7 points and a team-best 7.4 rebounds with
Jordan Jackson adding 9.1 ppg.
Northwestern State (8–7, 5–2 SLC) enters the night tied for second place in the league and is coming off a 16-point home win over Texas A&M–Corpus Christi. The Lady Demons are led by sophomore Vernell Atamah, who leads the conference in scoring at 19.1 ppg while also ranking in the top-10 on the boards with 5.7 rpg. Nya Valentine adds 11.5 ppg and leads NSU with 4.3 assists per game to check in at second in the SLC. The Lady Demons have relied heavily on their five starters who have started every game this season with three players averaging at least 30 minutes per game.
Thursday's game vwill be the 19th all-time meeting between the two programs with Northwestern State holding an 11-7 advantage over the Huskies.
