HOUSTON – Southland Conference play begins this Thursday evening at Sorrels Field for the HCU women's soccer team against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7:00 p.m. with the Huskies heading into the 10-game SLC slate having won their last three games.
The Huskies (5-4) have outscored their opponents, 7-2, during their three-game win streak with a pair of shutouts. Six different players have combined to score those seven goals with
Olivia Rossman finding the net twice. For the season, nine different players have scored goals to surpass the seven total players who scored during the 2024 campaign.
Collectively, the Huskies' goalkeepers own a save percentage of .764 with 42 saves to rank third in the league. HCU's three shutouts this season are tied for second-most among all SLC teams, just behind Stephen F. Austin with four.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (2-4-2) has lost its last two matches, falling 2-0 at Tarleton State and most recently dropping a 4-0 decision at home to Fresno State. The Islanders have scored 12 goals on the year with six of those coming in a 6-0 win over NAIA-member Texas A&M-San Antonio.
Sophomore forward Cilia Leal has scored a team-high three goals for TAMUCC while seniors Madison Page and Morgan Westbury each have two. In goal, senior Hayven Harrison has played every second so far this season and holds a 1.63 goals against average with a save percentage of .690.
The Huskies hit the road next Thursday, Sept. 25, for their first SLC road matchup when they face Lamar in Beaumont, Texas.
