FORT WORTH, Texas – On the final day of the regular season, the HCU beach volleyball team took a pair of losses at the TCU Fight in the Fort with the Huskies' defeats coming at the hands of No. 13 Grand Canyon and Missouri State.
HCU (12-18) jumped out to a 1-0 lead against Grand Canyon (22-8) in the morning with No. 2 pair
Paige Palmer and
Alisia Silverthorn earning a two-set win (23-21, 21-19). The next three matches to finish all went to the Lopes, however.
In the afternoon, the Huskies fell behind 2-0 after a pair of three-set losses by
Alexa Landmark and
Tatum Lockhardt on Court 4 (14-21, 21-16, 15-13) and Palmer/Silverthorn on Court 2 (21-23, 21-19, 15-13).
Audrey Pearce and
Lauren Vickery got HCU on the board at the threes, winning in two sets (21-15, 21-10). The deciding point came at the fives with
Taylor Gardner and
Karla Sanchez George falling in three sets (13-21, 21-17, 15-12). HCU's No. 1 pairing of
Kristin Gilmour and
Rachel Heilbrun won their first set with the match abandoned.
HCU heads to New Orleans, La. for the 2025 Southland Conference Championships beginning this Wednesday, Apr. 23, with their opening dual set for 11:00 a.m. against Stephen F. Austin.
