SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – HCU fell in a pair of tightly contested matchups on Saturday at the Cal Poly Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex, losing two 3-2 decisions to UC Davis and Santa Clara.
The first dual of the day was the 3-2 loss to UC Davis (6-4). The Huskies' (5-7) first point came on court two with
Paige Palmer and
Alisia Silverthorn paired together for the first time this season. The duo won in straight sets (21-18, 21-18).
Karla Sanchez George and
Lauren Vickery then picked up a win at court 4, pulling out a 17-21, 21-19, 15-13 win and to even the score at 2-2. The deciding point came down to court 1 where
Kristin Gilmour and
Rachel Heilbrun fell in a heartbreaker, 21-15, 17-21, 21-19.
The Huskies then faced off against Santa Clara (6-8). The Broncos took the first three points of the dual at courts 2, 5 and 4. Gilmour and Heilbrun picked up a win at the ones, again going three sets with a final scoreline of 21-13, 15-21, 19-17. The last point of the match was won by Sanchez George and Vickery, again at the Huskies' No. 4 pair, coming from behind 16-21, 21-19, 15-11.
The Huskies are set for two more duals on Sunday, Mar. 16, with No. 14 Grand Canyon at 1:30 p.m. CT before facing No. 6 Cal Poly at 6:30 p.m. CT.
