INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – HCU's
Kamryn McLaurin was announced as the Tamika Catchings Co-Freshman of the Week by the United States Basketball Writer's Association on Tuesday afternoon, a day after being named Southland Conference Player of the Week.
McLaurin becomes HCU's first-ever USBWA weekly award winner following her huge performance off the bench in HCU's win over conference foe Southeastern last Thursday. The freshman guard finished the evening with a career-best 29 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the floor in 39 minutes played. The freshman also went 8-of-14 from the foul line while recording three steals, two rebounds and an assist. She has scored in double-figures in seven of eight games this season and currently the team's leading scorer at 14 points per game.
McLaurin and the Huskies take aim at a perfect 3-0 start to SLC play this coming Thursday, Dec. 15, when they travel to Thibodaux, La. to face the Nicholls Colonels at 6:30 p.m.
