WBB: Huskies Open Southland Play on the Road at New Orleans

The Huskies enter Wednesday’s matchup coming off a strong 77–57 win over Concordia.

NEW ORLEANS, La. - HCU opens Southland Conference play on Wednesday afternoon when the Huskies travel to Louisiana for a 1 p.m. matchup against the New Orleans Privateers inside Lakefront Arena.

HCU (2-3) enters the game coming off back-to-back home wins, most recently a 77–57 victory over Concordia (TX) on Monday. The Huskies improved to 2–0 inside Sharp Gym and will now look to carry that momentum onto the road.

HCU's offense has taken a clear step forward over the last two outings. The Huskies are averaging 74.0 points per game this season, led by sophomore Grace Booth, who's putting up a team-best 15.2 points while shooting an efficient .585 from the field. Kamryn McLaurin enters the week scoring 13.0 per game and has knocked down 22 of her last 28 free throws. Jordan Jackson continues to be one of HCU's most consistent two-way players, averaging 11.6 points and 6.2 rebounds while hitting eight threes through the first five games. As a team, HCU has out-rebounded opponents 184–169 and is coming off a night where multiple players reached career highs.

New Orleans (0–5) is still searching for its first win and begins SLC play on Wednesday as well. The Privateers have struggled to keep opponents off the scoreboard, allowing 84.6 points per game and being out-rebounded by an average of 13.0 per contest. Offensively, Shanihya Brown leads UNO with 12.8 points per game and is shooting .537 from the floor. The Privateers are averaging 60.0 points per game while shooting .361 overall and .280 from three.

The series history between the programs has leaned HCU's way in recent years. The Huskies hold a 10–7 advantage all-time and won the most recent meeting last season, a 54–49 result in Houston. The last matchup in New Orleans was a 62–55 UNO win.

After Wednesday's conference opener, HCU will face South Florida on Friday, Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. in Tampa, Fla.
