COMMERCE, Texas – Having secured a spot in the 2025 Southland Conference Tournament this past Sunday, the HCU women's soccer team now turns its attention to its regular season finale against East Texas A&M at Lion Soccer Field this Thursday and playing for seeding.
HCU (8-8-2, 3-4-2 SLC) won a thriller against the McNeese Cowgirls on Sunday afternoon with
Ella Remy finding the net with just 49 seconds left in the game to send the Huskies home with a 1-0 win. The goal was the second of the week, and the season, for Remy who also scored for the Huskies at Southeastern last Thursday.
The Huskies have had 12 different players score goals this season with junior forward
Isabella Dillow scoring a team-high four. Senior defender
Alexia Murillo has a team-best four assists and has also scored a goal.
East Texas A&M (7-6-4, 4-1-4 SLC) has won its last two games after a 3-1 defeat at the hands of league-leading Northwestern State. Junior forward Mya Mitchell leads the Lions and ranks third in the conference with seven goals this season while fellow junior Hannah Bell has scored four. Senior Gillian McKenzie has played the majority of the minutes in goal, allowing a 1.30 goals against average with a save percentage of .785.
Depending on outcomes across the league on Thursday, HCU can earn anywhere from the fifth seed to the eighth seed in the conference tournament.
The tournament will be held in Beaumont, Texas at the LU Soccer Complex with the four first round games set to take place on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
