NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The HCU women's soccer team seemingly holds its destiny in its own hands as the Huskies have four games left in the regular season, all against teams above HCU in the Southland Conference standings with a road matchup against Stephen F. Austin up first this Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
With just two weeks left in the regular season, the Huskies (7-6-2, 2-2-2 SLC) have played one less conference game than every other team in the league and currently tied for seventh place in the SLC standings with eight points. SFA (5-3-8, 3-1-3 SLC), meanwhile, sits in second with 12 points while Northwestern State is atop the standings with 16.
HCU earned an important three points last Sunday with its 2-1 home victory over UIW with freshman
Katya Alexis and junior
Isabella Dillow scoring for the Huskies. Alexis' goal was her second in as many games as she earned SLC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Dillow, meanwhile, netted her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
SFA picked up a 3-1 win at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last Sunday with a pair of goals from freshman Taylor Dodson in a performance that garnered her SLC Offensive Player of the Week recognition. SFA goalkeeper Sierra McCluer leads the SLC with seven shutouts this season.
The Huskies and Lumberjacks met in Houston last season with SFA earning a 2-0 win.
HCU makes the trek to Hammond, La. next Thursday, Oct. 23, for a meeting with the Southeastern Lady Lions, currently third in the standings, before hosting McNeese, tied for fourth in the conference, at Sorrels Field for Senior Day on Sunday, Oct. 26. The regular season then concludes with a road matchup against an East Texas A&M team also tied for fourth place on Thursday, Oct. 30.
