HCU moves up three spots to tie for fifth at New Mexico State University GC

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The women's golf team closed out the Golf Iconic Classic with a strong showing, moving up three positions on the final day to tie for fifth at New Mexico State University Golf Course in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The Huskies battled through a competitive field throughout the three-day tournament hosted by New Mexico State. 

Sophomore Natcha Makmanee had an impressive performance at the New Mexico State University Golf Classic, finishing the tournament at seven under par in third place. She opened with a strong 68 in the first round, picking up multiple birdies and setting the tone for the weekend. In the second round, she faced a few challenges but stayed composed, shooting a solid 70 to remain in contention. Natcha closed the tournament with a 71 in the final round, showing consistency, focus, and strategic play on both the front and back nine. Her steady performance across all three rounds highlighted her talent and poise, marking her as one of the standout sophomores in the field.

Hailey Hendershott in 22nd place made a remarkable move in the final round of the New Mexico State University Golf Classic, climbing ten positions to finish strong. After opening the tournament with a 73 and following it with a 71, Hailey stayed focused and steady throughout round three, shooting a 73 to close out the weekend. Her consistent play, smart course management, and ability to rebound under pressure allowed her to rise on the leaderboard, showcasing her resilience and determination as a key contributor for the team.

Alyssa Stewart in 36th place had a solid showing at the New Mexico State University Golf Classic, finishing the tournament in fourth place. She started strong with a 70 in the first round, demonstrating precision and consistency across both nines. The second round was more challenging, as she carded a 74, but she remained composed and focused on maintaining her position on the leaderboard. In the final round, Alyssa shot a 76, showing determination despite a few tough holes, and finished the tournament as one of Houston Christian's top performers, highlighting her skill and resilience throughout the weekend.

Sara Pihlajamaki in 46th place finished the New Mexico State University Golf Classic in sixth place, showing steady play throughout the tournament. She opened with a 74 in the first round, keeping herself in contention with a mix of solid pars and key birdies. In the second round, Sara improved slightly with a 72, demonstrating consistency and focus on both the front and back nine. The final round proved challenging, as she carded a 76, but her resilience and determination allowed her to remain a strong contributor for Houston Christian, closing the weekend as one of the team's top performers.

Serena Churchill in 70th place finished the New Mexico State University Golf Classic in 11th place, showing perseverance throughout a challenging tournament. She began with a 76 in the first round, navigating some tough holes while staying in the mix. In round two, Serena improved slightly with a 73, demonstrating steady play and maintaining her position on the leaderboard. The final round proved difficult, as she carded a 78, but she remained resilient and battled through the course, contributing to Houston Christian's overall effort and closing the weekend with determination.

Huskies now turns its attention to the next challenge, the Diamante Intercollegiate, taking place October 19–21 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
