WSOC: Huskies Roll to 3-1 Road Win Over Prairie View

Freshman Karianne Desjardins scores twice for HCU

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Freshman Karianne Desjardins scored the first two goals of her collegiate career to stake the HCU women's soccer team to a 2-0 lead and the Huskies earned a 3-1 road win at Prairie View A&M on Friday evening to close out non-conference play.

The Huskies (2-5-2) were on the attack early with Olivia Rossman putting a shot on goal to the bottom right just 1:09 into the match. Prairie View (1-7) answered quickly, putting two shots on target to test HCU keeper Emmy McKeon in the span of 33 seconds a few minutes later with the freshman making the stops.

Katie Marker and Alexa Huerta each had shots saved over the next 30 minutes with McKeon registering another save as the game remained scoreless. A few minutes later, in the 38th minute, Emily Jaimes dropped a nifty pass to freshman Karianne Desjardins in front of an empty net with the freshman easily depositing the ball into the net for her first career goal less than four minutes after checking into the game.

After leading 1-0 at the half, it took a little under 26 minutes for Desjardins to connect for her second goal of the night, dribbling through a pair of defenders at the top of the box and beating the PVAMU keeper inside the right post. Late in the second half, Adi Radwanski drove in from the left win and found Rossman who quickly lofted a shot to the top right corner from five yards inside the box and gave the Huskies a 3-0 lead in the 84th minute. The Panthers got on the board with less than two minutes left to play thanks to a Sydney Robinson goal.

HCU recorded a season-high 20 shot attempts with 13 on goal while limiting the hosts to seven shots, though all were on target. Desjardins' two goals came on just three shot attempts. Rossman's goal was her first of the season, as were Jaimes' and Radwanski's assists. McKeon made four saves without allowing a goal in just over 85 minutes while Chloe Bagshaw allowed one goal with two saves in 4:24 in goal.

The Huskies open Southland Conference play this Sunday, Sept. 22, when they visit Corpus Christi, Texas to take on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at 1:00 p.m.
