EUGENE, Ore. – HCU senior
Scott Boon finished strong, both in the final event of the decathlon and for his career, on Thursday night at Hayward Field at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The day began with the 110 meter hurdles, which Boon finished in 15.98 for 735 points. Next up was the discus with the senior adding 664 points thanks to a top throw of 39.99m/131-2.0. Boon then cleared a top height of 4.61m/15-1.50 in the pole vault for 793 more points.
The penultimate event of the decathlon was the javelin throw and Boon put up a top throw of 48.03m/157-7.0 for an additional 559 points. Boon finished strong, running the fourth-fastest time in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:29.79 for 746 points.
Boon finished the decathlon with a total of 7,280 points and put him in 17
th place out of 24 competitors. He finished ahead of both the other competitors from the Southland Conference who finished ahead of him on the podium at the SLC Outdoor Championships, UIW's Isaiah Hudgens and Kyle Sieracki.
Boon's 17
th-place finish earns him honorable mention all-America honors. He closes out his HCU career as the program's record holder in the decathlon with a point total of 7,602 points set in 2021.
