T&F: New Program Record Not Enough to Propel Rabius to Nationals

Jessica Rabius improves upon her own record by nearly two seconds in the 1500m

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – In a cruel twist of fate, HCU senior Jessica Rabius ran the eighth-fastest time of the day in the 1500 meters on Saturday at the NCAA West First Round but will not advance to the semifinals at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. in June.

Running in heat one, Rabius raced to a time of 4:16.48 to improve upon her previous PR and program record time of 4:18.36. Unfortunately for the Huskies' standout, she placed eighth in her heat and eighth overall with every runner in heat two finishing with a slower time. By virtue of the rules, however, the top five finishers from each heat and the two fastest remaining times move on to the semifinals, leaving Rabius the first runner out. The top time from heat was nearly a second slower at 4:17.23.

Rabius finishes her HCU career as one of the most decorated student-athletes in program history, reaching the NCAA semifinals last year in the 800 meters, reaching the podium 12 times at Southland Conference Championships and holding six program records across indoor and outdoor competition.
