FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Senior
Alex Piquart bettered his own school record by more than a second to advance to the next round while teammate
Denzel Hinds ran just off his PR on Wednesday evening at the NCAA West First Round hosted on the University of Arkansas campus at John McDonnell Field.
Piquart, running the 800 meters, recorded a time of 1:48.15 to advance to Friday's quarterfinals. He placed fourth in his heat but his time was the ninth-fastest among the 48 entrants. Piquart was already the program record holder in the 800m with a previous best time of 1:49.19 set in April at the Bryan Clay Invitational. He's set to run in the quarterfinals at 7:05 p.m. with a spot in Eugene, Ore. at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships on the line.
Hinds, meanwhile, came in sixth in his heat with a time of 52.12. That time was just .16 seconds off his PR set at the 2024 Southland Conference Outdoor Championships. Hinds placed 31
st overall after entering with the 48
th-best time in the event at the meet.
Jessica Rabius is scheduled to run in the fourth heat of the women's 1500 meters first round on Thursday, May 23, at 3:30 p.m.
