Box Score NACHITOCHES, Louisiana – The Huskies matched NSU in hits, seven, but two errors cost HCU on Saturday, falling 2-5 in game two at Brown-Stroud Field. The Demons allowed seven hits with no walks and eight strikeouts while HCU gave up seven hits, four walks, and committed two errors with nine strikeouts.
The Demons struck first scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second inning. After tallying another run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third inning, NSU held a 2-0 lead heading into the top of the fifth inning. After a lead off double down the left field line off the bat of

Parker Edwards, scoring on a
William Jewell single up the middle to get the Huskies on the board and make it a one-run game at 1-2. In the bottom of the frame, the Demons reclaimed their two-run lead with a lead off home run to left field. Trailing 5-1 after allowing two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Huskies entered the ninth inning needing four runs to extend the game. A
Samuel Benjamin lead off solo-shot to right field provided the spark for a much-needed rally out of the Huskies, but after a single to third base by
Tyler LaRue, Hodge grounded into a double play before Edwards struck out swinging to hand HCU a game-two loss, 2-5.
The Huskies (15-27, 6-11 SLC) were led by Benjamin hitting homers in back-to-back games going 1-for-4 with a home run. Jewell matched his previous eight game total hits going 2-for-4 with an RBI while Hodge went 1-for-4 with a double and a run.
Rye Gunter (2-1) was tagged with his first loss of the season pitching four innings to start the game, allowing two earned runs on two hits with a pair of walks and four strikeouts.
Nicholas Willard came into relief Gunter for three innings, allowing three runs, two earned runs, on five hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
Mark Lopez tossed the final scoreless frame with a walk.
Northwestern State (17-26, 8-9 SLC) were led by Reese Lipoma going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs. Bo Valentine went 2-for-2 with an RBI, a run, and a pair of walks while Samuel Stephenson went 1-for-4 with a home run. Aidan Newton (2-3) earned the win pitching three innings of relief allowing one earned run on four hits. Tyler Bryan started the game for the Demons, pitching four scoreless innings on one hit and fanning five batters. Caleb Bunch tossed the final two frames, giving up one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts.
The Huskies will conclude the three-game series against NSU on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Brown-Stroud Field.
