BEAUMONT, Texas – The HCU women's basketball team travels east on I-10 this Thursday for the final regular season game of the 2023-24 Southland Conference women's basketball calendar to face the Lamar Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. at Neches Federal Credit Union Arena.
 
HCU (6-22, 1-16 SLC) is in the midst of a six-game losing skid after falling to Texas A&M-Commerce at home this past Saturday. Freshman Tove Caesar, starting for just the sixth time this season, scored a career-high 14 points for the Huskies in the loss. Senior N'Denasija Collins, playing in the final home game at Sharp Gym of her career, led the team with 19 points and nine rebounds while Enya Maguire added 13 points and freshman Hannah Fields set a new career-best with four steals.
 
Lamar (22-5, 16-1) is riding a 12-game winning streak and secured the regular season SLC championship. In their last game, the Cardinals defeated Northwestern State on the road, 80-64. Junior Akasha Davis finished that game with 24 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor and 10-of-11 from the foul line while also grabbing 11 rebounds.
 
Thursday game will feature some of the top players in the league with HCU's Collins currently ranking second in SLC play in rebounding with 8.4 rebounds per game with her team-leading 13.4 points per game ninth-best in the conference. For the Cardinals, Davis and Sabria Dean pose a two-headed threat offensively, averaging 15.8 ppg and 15.1 ppg in SLC play, respectively. For the season, Davis is averaging a double-double of 14.8 ppg and 10.8 rpg.
 
When the two programs met in Beaumont last season, Lamar pulled out a 71-63 win.
