SUGAR LAND, Texas – The Huskies finished in 2
nd place at the 2024 HCU Huskies Intercollegiate at Riverbend Country Club. HCU has nine consecutive top-3 finishes at the host tournament including four wins (2017-2019 and 2021). After firing 308-299 on opening day to sit in 3
rd place, the Huskies posted the third lowest score of the final round with a 15-over par, 303, to improve to a runner-up finish.
Alejandra Ferrer led the Huskies finishing in a tie for 3
rd place after carding a final round two-over par, 74. Recording rounds of 77-70 on opening day including five birdies, the sophomore added four birdies in her final round to tie the tournament best eight birdies in the final two rounds. With a tough start to the final round that saw Ferrer five-over par through her first seven holes, the Mexico native rolled in a birdie at the par-4, 9
th hole, to minimize the damage and make the turn at four-over par. Ferrer reclaimed the magic knocking in birdies at the par-4, 10
th hole, and the par-5, 12
th hole. After a bogey at the 16
th hole, Ferrer bounded back with a birdie at the par-3, 17
th hole, to finish at five-over par for the week and claim her first top-5 of the season and tie her best finish as a Husky.
Lou Rousselot notched her first top-10 of the season and her 11
th top-10 of her Husky career with a 9
th place finish. The junior matched her first round score in the final round with a four-over par, 76, after posting rounds of 76-72 on day one. The France native's lone birdie in the final round came at the par-3, 17
th hole, to knock in six total birdies on the week. Rousselot now has finished inside the top-10 in all three home tournaments of her ongoing three-year career at HCU, including a win in 2022.
Rocio Comparini capped off her final home tournament as a Husky with a final round three-over par, 75, claiming her best finish to-date as a Husky. The senior finished in a tie for 20
th place following rounds of 78-79-75 for a 16-over par total. The Argentina native recorded back-to-back birdies in the final round at the 17
th and 18
th holes to post two-under par on her last three holes of the tournament. Comparini led the Huskies with 33 total pars for the week.
Following rounds of 80-81 on opening day,
Aysis Azarcon finished the tournament with a six-over par, 78, in the final round. The senior matched her day one total birdies, two, on the final day rolling in birdies at the 10
th and 1
st holes to finish in 35
th place at 23-over par for the tournament.
Rounding out the Husky lineup,
Jackie Nguyen tallied rounds of 77-78-85 to finish in a tie 36
th place at 24-over par. The junior recorded four birdies for the week and finished tied for third on the team in par-4 scoring average with a 4.35 average.
Competing as an individual,
Abigail Inocian carded rounds of 79-78-84 to finish in a tie for 39
th place at 25-over par. The freshman knocked in a lone birdie in the final round at the par-5, 12
th hole, to tally five total birdies for the week. The Allen native led the Huskies in par-5 scoring average with a 4.83 average, two-under par for the tournament.
Also competing as an individual,
Lucia Allub finished her final home tournament as a Husky recording rounds of 82-82-81. The senior rolled in a lone birdie in the final round at the par-3, 4
th hole, to match her day one total. The Argentina native finished the week in 49
th place at 29-over par.
Abilene Christian went wire-to-wire to claim the 2024 HCU Huskies Intercollegiate team title at 18-over par following rounds of 287-301-294. The Huskies finished 2
nd place at 46-over par just ahead of Corpus Christi taking third place at 48-over par. ACU swept the podium with Ryann Honea claiming the individual title at two-under par carding rounds of 69-73-72. Her fellow teammate, Sydney Williams, notched 2
nd place at three-over par, five shots back. ACU's Manon Guille and the HCU's Ferrer tied for third place at five-over par, seven-shots back.
The Huskies will return to action at the ULM Invitational hosted by Louisianna-Monroe on April 1
st and 2
nd to cap off the non-conference season before the 2024 SLC Tournament on April 15
th-17
th.
