SUGAR LAND, Texas – The Huskies host the 2024 HCU Huskies Intercollegiate at Riverbend Country Club on March 11th-12th. For the 6th consecutive year, the 6,100-yard, par 72, Riverbend CC has hosted the HCU home tournament for 12 of the 15 total years of tournament history. The tree-lined fairways leading to fast undulating greens offers a stern test for the 12-team, 68-player, field.
The Huskies will send out a lineup of senior's Rocio Comparini and Aysis Azarcon, junior's Jackie Nguyen and Lou Rousselot, and sophomore Alejandra Ferrer. Senior Lucia Allub and freshman Abigail Inocian will compete as individuals.
Senior's Comparini, Azarcon and Allub will compete in their final home tournament as members of the Women's golf program. Comparini tied her best Husky career finish to-date at the home tournament last season finishing in a tie for 27th place with rounds of 79-73-79. The Argentina native also finished tied for 27th place two-weeks prior, at the 2023 Islander Classic. Comparini fired her lowest round, 71, of her Husky campaign to-date at the 2022 Lady Red Wolves Classic and recorded four rounds of par or better over her ongoing four-year Husky career.
Azarcon has competed in the Husky program for five seasons (including the covid year) posting nine top-20s, two top-10s, and two top-5 finishes over the span. The Grand Praire native carded the lowest round of the 2021-2022 HCU program with a four-under par, 67, in the second round of the 2021 Bearkat Invitational to notch her best finish to-date as a Husky, tied for 3rd place with rounds of 76-67-71. Two years prior in her freshman season, the senior finished tied for 4th place at the same tournament, the 2019 Bearkat Invitational, recording rounds of 75-75-72 in her second tournament as a member of the Husky program. Azarcon's best finish to-date at the home tournament came in 2021 finishing in a tie for 15th place posting rounds of 73-72-80. The Mansfield Timberview grad tallied eight rounds of par or better in her Husky career to-date including five rounds in her junior campaign two seasons ago.
Allub has tallied two top-20s and a top-10 finish over her HCU career to-date while carding six rounds of par or better over that stretch. The Argentina native logged her best finish to-date as a Husky at the 2021 Islander Classic firing rounds of 76-81-72 to finish in a tie for 8th place. The senior recorded her lowest round, 71, to-date as a Husky twice; both coming in the final round of the 2020 UTA Invitational and the 2022 Islander Classic. In her freshman season, Allub notched her best finish at the home tournament with a tie for 36th place following rounds of 78-81-77.
The 12-team field competing at the 2024 HCU Husky Intercollegiate consists of HCU, ACU, Lamar, Corpus Christi, Commerce, UT-Arlington, Tarleton, PVAMU, SFA, Oklahoma City, McClennan CC, and Odessa College. Six additional individuals will also compete in the 54-hole tournament from these various programs.
The 54-hole tournament will commence at 8:30 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday with 36-holes of competition completed on Monday and the final 18-holes concluded on Tuesday. The Huskies team will tee off on holes one through three and playing alongside Corpus Christi and ACU. Inocian will start on hole four competing alongside Oklahoma City's Carrie Bowers and UT-Arlington's Emilynn Tran while Lucia Allub will start on the 17th hole playing with Tarleton's Elle Fox and SFA's Jessica Aguirre.
