HOUSTON – HCU women's basketballs is set to take on Utah Tech for the first time in program history this Thursday at 6:00 p.m. inside Sharp Gym as the Huskies begin a stretch of eight games before the new year with seven of those on their home floor.
The Huskies (0-3) have opened the season against three Big 12 opponents, most recently dropping a heartbreaker across town to the Houston Cougars. HCU led by seven in the first half and then trailed by as many as nine in the second half before tying the game at 52-52 with 2:33 left to play. Neither team was able to pull ahead until a foul called on HCU with just two seconds to go sent UH's Leilani Augmon to the line. She knocked down both free throws to put the Cougars ahead for the win.

Victoria Dixon led the Huskies with 12 points each with Oly going 6-of-11 from the floor and Dixon knocking down 5-of-11. HCU out-rebounded the Cougars, 37-34, and shot 42.3 percent (22-of-52) from the field while holding the hosts to just 35.2 percent (19-of-54).
HCU has now out-rebounded all three opponents they've faced in the regular season (TCU, Texas Tech, Houston) and owns a +6.3 rebounding margin.
Tiffany Tullis leads the way with 8.3 rebounds per game while Oly is pulling down 7.3 rpg. Dixon leads the way on the offensive end with 8.3 points per game.
Utah Tech (2-2) comes to Houston following an 81-78 home win over Weber State this past Saturday. The Trailblazers got a 28-point effort from junior Chardonnay Hartley while Emily Isaacson added 20 points and a team-best six rebounds while Ellie Taylor scored 17. UTU had a big-time shooting game from long-range, connecting on 16-of-30 (53.3 percent) from behind the arc.
Through four games, Hartley is averaging 19.3 ppg to lead the team while also dishing out 34 assists. Mylee Graham leads the way on the boards, averaging 6.0 rpg in just 14 minutes per game off the bench. The Trailblazers are shooting 37.1 percent (51-of-137) from three-point range so far this season.
Thursday marks the first meeting between the two programs. The Trailblazers will head to Lake Charles, La. for a Saturday, Nov. 23 matchup against the McNeese Cowgirls.
The Huskies will face another WAC opponent on Tuesday, Nov. 26, when they face Tarleton State in Sharp Gym at 6:00 p.m.
