WSOC: Huskies Face Tough Road Trip at Northwestern State and UIW

HCU will travel more than 850 miles over the course of this two-game stretch

NATCHITOCHES, La. – HCU women's soccer is set to log more than 850 miles while playing road matchups against Northwestern State and UIW this coming weekend in Southland Conference play.

The Huskies (3-7-3, 1-2-1 SLC) first trek to Natchitoches, La. for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex on Friday, Oct. 11. They'll then travel around 400 miles between games to take on UIW in San Antonio, Texas at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13.

HCU has had a week off after its last game, a 1-0 road loss at UT Rio Grande Valley on Thursday of last week. Four matches into the conference season, the Huskies stand tied for eighth place in the Southland standings with four points.

Northwestern State (7-5-1, 3-1 SLC) dropped its last game, 2-1, on the road to Southeastern, a loss that snapped a seven-game winning streak and an eight-game unbeaten streak. Emily Senatore, a sophomore midfielder, is tied for the conference lead with six goals and as a team the Demons are second with 23 goals scored across 13 games.

UIW (5-5-2, 2-2 SLC) went 2-0 on the road last weekend, earning 1-0 wins at both Nicholls and McNeese. The Cardinals have struggled at home, however, with just a 1-3-1 record at Benson Stadium. UIW goalkeeper Erica Defferding is tied for the league lead with four shutouts while her .829 save percentage and 5.27 saves per game are both second in the conference.

The series between the Huskies and both opponents have both been evenly matches over the years. HCU is 7-7-1 all-time against the Demons and owns a 7-6-1 record against the Cardinals.

The Huskies return home to Sorrels Field for a pair of conference matchups against Lamar and Southeastern on Oct. 18 and Oct. 20.
