HOUSTON – The HCU women's soccer team wraps up non-conference this play with a pair of away matches, though the Huskies won't have travel far to face their opponents, Houston and TSU, on Thursday and Sunday.
The Huskies (1-3) split a pair of home games last week, first taking down Sam Houston, 2-1, on Thursday before falling, 3-1, to Texas State on Sunday. Freshman
Olivia Rossman scored a goal vs. Sam Houston and then assisted on
Katie Marker's goal against the Bobcats on Sunday.
HCU is 2-6-2 all-time against the Cougars (5-0-1) and a perfect 7-0-0 vs. TSU (0-6).
The Cougars are off to an unbeaten start and own a 5-2 win over Southland Conference rival Southeastern. UH is currently sixth in the nation with 3.83 goals per game with sophomore forward Cameryn Maddox leading the way at five goals. Three other Cougars have scored three goals this season, including senior Caitlyn Matthews who also has three assists. In goal, sophomore Olivia Dietrich has started five matches and owns a save percentage of .821.
TSU is currently winless this season, most recently falling on the road to Nicholls, 4-1. The Tigers are led offensively by senior Hajar Benjoud with four goals scored. She has a pair of two-goal performances against both Rice and St. Mary's (TX). Freshman Alessandra Bastidas has started five of the team's games and sports a 2.82 goals against average with a .744 save percentage.
Thursday's game vs. UH will be broadcast on ESPN+ at 7:00 p.m. from the Carl Lewis International Complex while Sunday's matchup with the Tigers will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Durley Stadium.
