WSOC: HCU Returns Home for Two vs. Islanders and Cowgirls

The Huskies are 2-1 at home this season



HOUSTON – The HCU women's soccer team is back home on their home field this weekend for a pair of Southland Conference games, first facing Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday before taking on McNeese on Sunday at Sorrels Field.
 
The Huskies (3-5, 1-1 SLC) opened conference play with a 5-0 victory at home over Nicholls before falling in their last game, a 4-1 loss at Lamar. HCU's six goals in SLC play are tied for the most in the league.
 
The Huskies' Katie Marker scored her second goal of the season, and 10th of her career, last Friday at Lamar. She now has 28 career points thanks to her 10 goals and eight assists. Mia Salas,  HCU's outside back who scored the game-winning goal in the win over Nicholls, owns six goals and four assists in her career.
 
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (3-4-3, 0-1-1 SLC) has gone 1-1-3 over its last five games and most recently played McNeese (4-4-2, 1-0-1 SLC) to a 1-1 draw in Lake Charles. Sophomore forward Mai-Lisa Atis leads the Islanders with four goals this season to go along with one assist while junior forward Megan Guy also has nine points thanks to three goals and three assists. In goal, Zoe Theriot and Kennedy Stelling have split time over the last three games, combining to allow five goals with eight saves.
 
McNeese is unbeaten over its last four games, drawing with Southern and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi while earning wins over Jackson State and Nicholls. The Cowgirls' most recent game was a 3-0 road win over Nicholls with senior Magalie Depot netting a brace. Freshman forward Morgan Fiedler has been the Cowgirls' top offensive threat with five goals and an assist. As a team, McNeese is allowing just 1.1 goals per game. The Cowgirls play Northwestern State on Friday before heading to Houston for Sunday's match.
 
Next week, the Huskies will hit the road for a Friday, Oct. 6, matchup with Texas A&M-Commerce before returning home to take on Northwestern State on Sunday, Oct. 8.
