MBB: Cottrell bolsters recruiting class with Imariagbe

Houston native becomes fifth newcomer for 2023-24 season

HOUSTON – Ron Cottrell, HCU James Sears Bryant Head Men's Basketball Coach, announced the signing of Michael Imariagbe to join the Huskies program on Tuesday afternoon.

Michael Imariagbe (Houston, Texas - Alief Elsik / McMurry / Coastal Bend CC), 6'7, 215, Forward

A 6'7 forward, Imariagbe averaged 13.4 ppg, 8.2 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and 1.0 steals over two seasons at McMurry University.

After being named the American Southwest Conference Freshman of the Year in 2020-21, Imariagbe averaged 15 points and nine rebounds while shooting 54% from the floor to earn All-ASC honors as a sophomore.

He was also a two-time ASC All-Defensive selection for the War Hawks.

The Houston native was a first-team All-District selection while playing at Alief Elsik High School. He transfers to HCU after spending a redshirt season at Coastal Bend College last year, and has three years left to play.

Imariagbe on HCU:

"Being at a school with a strong Christian foundation and high academics was important to me. When I came to campus and met the coaches and staff, it just felt like I was home again.

I'm looking forward to getting to work and doing what I can to help us be successful."

Cottrell on Imariagbe:

"We are so excited to add another local young man to our roster with the addition of Mike.

He is the prototypical Southland Conference strong, athletic, multi-positional player who has proven on the college level to be productive on both ends of the floor.  Mike can score in many different ways and at all levels.  But, just as importantly, he is a strong and determined defender.

Lastly, Mike really fits our program.  He is a team leader who comes to work hard every day to make sure his team wins.  We couldn't be happier to have him join our HCU family."

NOTE:

Imariagbe becomes the fifth member of the 2023-24 signing class for Cottrell.

He joins previous signees:

Porter Bazil (April 17)
🏀 Dominic Capriotti (May 10) 🏀 Jay Alvarez (May 16) 🏀 Marcus Greene (May 19)
