A 6-7, 210 lb. wing from Lincoln Northeast High School where he played for coach Monte Ritchie, Bazil averaged 10.4 points, seven rebounds, 1.4 assists and 4.3 blocked shots per game this past season en route to being named Nebraska Defensive Player of the Year by NxtPro Nebraska. He led the state of Nebraska in 2022-23 and set a new school record for single-season blocked shots (107), and career blocked shots (224), at Northeast.
Porter is the younger brother of current Husky
Pierce Bazil who completed his freshman season at HCU, averaging 8.6 points per game.
Bazil on HCU:
"HCU was exactly what I was looking for in a Christian university and the coaching staff have the type of character and integrity that I really respect."
Cottrell on Bazil:
"What better way to start the signing period than to announce that Porter Bazil has chosen to be a part of our basketball program and university. Porter is a terrific addition, both and off the court. His length, defensive skills, shot-blocking ability, ball-handling and ability to shoot the ball at all three levels makes him a prized recruit and someone we would have targeted even without his brother's presence in our program. The fact that we knew Porter, and his fabulously supportive family, from having Pierce at HCU made him a top priority for us. Just like Pierce, there is no doubt that Porter will have an immediate impact on our program and throughout our campus."
