WSOC: Huskies Louisiana-Bound for Two

HCU faces Southeastern before a rematch with Nicholls

HAMMOND, La. – Fresh off a thrilling 2-1 win over Northwestern State this past Sunday, the HCU women's soccer team hits the road to face Southeastern at Strawberry Stadium for the only meeting between the two teams this season on Friday before heading to Thibodaux, La. for a second meeting with Nicholls on Sunday.

The Huskies (4-8, 2-4 SLC) snapped a four-match losing streak with their come-from-behind victory last Sunday with two second half goals from Emily Jaimes and Kat Lazor. Lazor's game-winner was a long-distance blast that made its way to No. 8 in the ESPN Sportscenter Top 10 on Sunday evening. Prior to Sunday's win, HCU had lost three consecutive matches by one goal.

HCU stands in a four-way tie for fifth place with six points in the SLC standings. The Huskies' 119 shot attempts against league opponents is the most in the conference and the team ranks third in the league with 12 goals in conference play.

Southeastern (4-9, 2-4 SLC) is one of those teams tied with the Huskies in fifth place. The Lady Lions are also coming off a win that snapped a three-game skid, defeating UIW, 1-0, on the road last Sunday. Goals have been tough to come by for SLU with just eight goals scored in 13 matches. Senior Mya Guillory leads the Lady Lions with three goals on the season. Olivia Griffin has been the team's primary goalkeeper with a 1.31 goals against average and a save percentage of .762.

The Colonels (1-14, 0-6 SLC) have lost nine-straight games, including a 5-0 decision to the Huskies at Sorrels Field on Sep. 17. HCU held Nicholls to just five total shots and only two on goal in that win. Junior Lauren Andre leads the Colonels with three goals on the season. Two keepers have combined for 83 saves this season while allowing 59 goals against.

All-time, the Huskies are 11-3-2 vs. the Lady Lions, 5-1-1 on the road and have won the last four meetings. Nicholls won the first-ever meeting between the two teams but the Huskies have won 11 in a row.

HCU will have just two games left after this coming weekend, one on the road at Northwestern State on Oct. 22 and the regular season finale vs. UIW at home for Senior Night on Oct. 27.
