LAKE CHARLES, La. – The HCU men's and women's cross country teams both placed third on Saturday morning at the Lake Charles Toyota McNeese Cowboy Stampede held at the Derbonne Multisports Complex. Houston Christian University (HCU), formerly Houston Baptist University (HBU), underwent a name change in September 2022.
The women, running a 5k, were led by senior
Jessica Rabius who placed fourth overall with a time of 18:22.6, less than three seconds away from a top-three finish. Sophomore
Arlette Concepcion finished sixth, less than two seconds away from the top-five, crossing the finish line in 18:25.1. Three freshmen rounded out the Huskies' scoring with
Destiny Quintanilla placing 11
th with a time of 19:14.3 while
Eline Mast came in two spots back in 19:40.0.
Isabel Case finished in 20:16.6, placing 17
th.
In the men's four-mile, senior
Justice Artisst was the team's top-finisher for the second time this season. Artisst posted a time of 19:41.7, less than five seconds off his PR, and came in less than 12 seconds behind the winner to place third. Fellow senior
Isaiah Price crushed his previous PR by more than 30 seconds, placing 11
th with a time of 20:20.9. In 13
th place and also with a new PR time of 20:24.1 was senior
Nate Allen. Placing 24
th and 26
th, respectively, were
Travis Jacobs and
Krzysztof Turski with Jacobs posting a new PR of 21:22.6 and Turski crossing in 21:37.0.
The women took third place with 51 total points, finishing behind conference rivals McNeese (34) and Lamar (37). The Husky men totaled 69 points with Rice (29) taking first followed by McNeese (48) in second.
HCU's next meet is scheduled for Oct. 15 in Bryan-College Station, Texas with the Texas A&M Arturo Barrios Invitational set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
