HAMMOND, La. - After moving into a tie for first place, HBU dropped its last seven and fell to the six seed, but looks to right the ship in the opening round of the Southland Conference Baseball Tournament against New Orleans Thursday at 1 p.m. at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
 
The Huskies (18-34, 11-13 SLC) lost two-of-three against the Privateers at home April 1-3. HBU was swept on the road by No. 2 Southeastern and took two-of-three from No. 7 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on the road.
 
Junior first baseman Brennen Bales is hitting .313 with 11 doubles, a triple, a home run, 24 RBIs and 21 runs and ranked second in the league with a .387 batting average in conference play, while junior catcher Kevin Ortiz is hitting .313 with three doubles, a home run, 16 RBIs and 18 runs and led the league with a .397 batting average in conference play. Junior centerfielder Austin Roccaforte was a third-team all-conference selection, leading the league with 40 walks and hitting .280 with six doubles, three triples, 23 RBIs, 33 runs and 13 stolen bases. Senior utilty man Jake Miller was also a third-team selection, hitting .274 with eight doubles, four homers, 23 RBIs and 23 runs. Junior rightfielder Logan Letney is hitting .278 wtih six doubles, two triples, three home runs, 19 RBIs and 31 runs.
 
Senior righthander Brennen Bales (0-1, 12.91 ERA) will make his first start of the season in the opener for the Huskies. Senior righthander Andrew Reitmeyer earned second-team all-conference honors after ranking third in the league with eight saves.
 
The winner of the Hammond bracket and the Lake Charles bracket will meet in a best two-out-of-three series at the higher remaining seed for the Southland Conference Tournament title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
