HOUSTON - HBU battles McNeese with six teams still in the hunt for the regular-season title in the final Southland Conference series Thursday through Saturday at Husky Field.
 
The Huskies (18-31, 11-10 SLC) enter the series tied for third with three other teams, one game behind the Cowboys (27-21, 12-9) and Southeastern. All three games will be shown on ESPN+ with Russ Reneau.
 
Junior first baseman Brennen Bales is hitting .319 with 10 doubles, a home run, 23 RBIs and 20 runs, while sophomore catcher Parker Edwards is hitting .277 with eight home runs, 11 doubles, 27 RBIs and 18 runs for HBU. Senior infielder/outfielder Jake Miller is also hitting .277 with four home runs, eight doubles, 22 RBIs and 23 runs, while junior rightfielder Logan Letney is hitting .275 with six doubles, two triples, two home runs, 16 RBIs and 29 runs.
 
The Huskies will likely start senior lefthander Austin Spinney (3-3, 6.62 ERA) and senior righthander Jared Burch (1-3, 4.76 ERA) with Saturday's starter to be determined. Senior close Andrew Retimeyer is tied for second in the league with eight saves.
 
Brad Burckel is hitting .360 with seven home runs, 10 doubles, 33 RBIs and 49 runs, while Payton Harden is hitting .355 with 11 doubles, four triples, 28 RBIs and 37 runs for McNeese. Braden Duhon is batting .339 with five doubles, three triples, 30 RBIs and 22 runs and Kade Hunter is batting .289 with 12 dobules, three home runs, 22 RBIs and 26 runs. Julian Gonzales has seven homers, 14 doubles, 36 RBIs and 40 runs.
 
The Cowboys are expected to start righthanders Grant Rogers (5-4, 3.99) and Chance Stone (3-2, 3.88 ERA), with Saturday's starter also yet to be determined.
 
HBU took two-of-three from McNeese in Lake Charles to open the SLC slate March 25-27.
 
The top two seeds host a pod at next week's Southland Conference Tournament, with the winners of each bracket advancing to a best two-out-of-three series at the highest remaining seed to determine the league champion.
