FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference announced the 2021-22 Women's Basketball All-Academic Teams which included five Huskies Thursday afternoon.
Southland Conference Player of the Year,
Timia Jefferson, and
Julija Vujakovic were named to the All-Academic First Team. This is each of their second time being honored with an all-academic selection.
Jefferson was named to the HBU Deans list and the SLC Commissioners Honor Roll, was a Southland Conferecne Preseason First-Team selection, and was named to the Southland Conference First-Team at the end of the season. She was voted Southland Conference Player of the Year after leading HBU to the regular season title for the first time in program history. She was seventh in the Southland in scoring, third in free-throw percentage, and 11th in steals. She is majoring in Psychology and has a GPA of 3.4.
Vujakovic was named to the HBU Deans list and the SLC Commissioners Honor Roll, was a Southland Conferecne Preseason Second-Team honoree and was named to the Southland Conference All-Second team at the end of the season. She was one of the defensive anchors for a team that led the country in opponent three-point percentage for a majority of the season. She was third in the conference in three-point shooting and fourth in three-point field goals made per game. She was ninth in steals and 12th in blocked shots. She majored in Psychology and is currently working on her masters in the same field. She has a 4.0 GPA.
Kennedy Wilson,
Marilyn Nzoiwu, and
Abbey Sutherland were all named to the All-Academic Second Team.
Wilson was named to the HBU Deans list and the SLC Commissioners Honor Roll, was a Southland Conferecne Preseason Second-Team honoree and was named to the Southland Conference All-Second team at the end of the season. Wilson was the second best free-throw shooter in the conference, knocking down 87 percent of her attempts. In conference play, she was the leader in three-point percentage at 51 percent while leading the entire conference in free-throw shooting. Wilson is majoring in Family Studies and has a GPA of 3.617.
Nzoiwu was named to the HBU Deans list and the SLC Commissioners Honor Roll. She was named to the Southland Conference All-Defensive team following this season. She was second on the Huskies and was ranked fifth in the conference in blocked shots and rebounding. Nzoiwu majored in Psychology and is working for her master's in the same field. She has a 4.0 GPA.
Sutherland was named to the HBU Deans list and the SLC Commissioners Honor Roll. She was another defensive anchor for the Huskies who were great defensively all season. She was second in the Conferecne in blocked shots and eighth in minutes played with 841. She earned her major in Psychology and is working towards her masters in Kinesiology. She has a 4.0 GPA.
