HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Sam Houston broke open a tie ballgame with six runs in the fourth, then added seven runs in the eighth for a 19-3 victory over HBU in non-conference baseball Wednesday night at Don Sanders Stadium.
Senior leftfielder
Jake Miller reached all four times, going 3-for-3 with a walk and a run for the Huskies (15-27), while junior first baseman
Brennen Bales was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Junior third baseman
Reed Chumley also tripled, drove in a run and scored.
Junior righthander
Will Ripoll (1-5) took the loss for HBU.
Anthony MacKenzie went 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBIs and a run, while Hunter Autrey went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Justin Wishkoski was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run and Myles Jefferson was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs. National RBI leader Carlos Contreras and Walker Janek each homered drove in a pair and scored twice for the Bearkats (23-17).
Gavin Coldiron (2-3) picked up the win for SHSU.
The Huskies return to action when they host UIW in a three-game Southland Conference series Friday through Sunday at Husky Field.
