WACO, Texas – Baylor scored the first four runs of the game and answered HBU's two-run, seventh inning rally with one of its own for a 6-2 victory in non-conference baseball Tuesday night at Baylor Ballpark.
Junior rightfielder
Matt Crossley went 3-for-3 with a walk and scored a run for HBU (0-4). Sophomore shortstop
Sebastian Trinidad singled and picked up an RBI, while junior centerfielder
Austin Roccaforte also tallied his first RBI of the season. Senior leftfielder
Jake Miller extended his hitting streak to four games.
Junior righthander
Will Ripoll (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits with five strikeouts and a walk in five innings. Senior lefthander
Austin Spinney went the final three, giving up two runs on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Tre Richardson went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, two RBIs and scored twice for Baylor (1-3). Kyle Nevin was 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs, while Michael Pineda was 2-for-5 and scored three times.
Kobe Andrade (1-0) notched the win for the Bears, holding the Huskies scoreless on three hits with a strikeout over the first two innings. Baylor used six pitchers on the night.
The Bears jumped out to an early lead when McKenzie drew a four-pitch, two-out walk, went to second on a balk, then scored on Nevin's RBI single. Baylor added a run in the third as Pineda led off with a triple to right, then came ohome on Nevin's sacrifice fly.
Richardson's two run home run down the leftfield line in the fifth extended the Bears' lead to 4-0.
HBU got on the board in the seventh when LaRue walked, Crossley singled and Ortiz reached on an error to load the bases. Trinidad and Roccaforte each walked to cut the deficit in half.
Baylor got both runs back in the bottom half of the frame, loading the bases and getting a walk by Valdez and an infield single by Wehsener.
