HOUSTON – Rice took an early lead and rode the strong pitching performance of freshman Parker Smith to a 6-2 victory over HBU in non-conference baseball Wednesday at Husky Field.
Senior second baseman
Jake Miller went 2-for-4 and scored a run, extending his hitting streak to five games and recording his fourth multi-hit game of the young season. Junior catcher
Tyler LaRue tripled and drove in a run.
Junior righthander
Chad Ricker (0-1) allowed four runs, two earned, on four hits with four strikeouts and three walks in five innings for the Huskies (0-5).
Drew Woodcox went 2-for-5 and scored run for the Owls (1-3). Justin Long doubled, drove in a run and scored, while Antonio Cruz added abn RBI double.
Smith held HBU scoreless on two hits with four strikeouts and no walks in six innings.
The Huskies return to action when they host Hofstra this weekend.
