BSB: Huskies Split DH With Hofstra

Brennen Bales doubles in both games

SUGAR LAND, Texas – After Hofstra tied game two with a two-run home run in the top of the ninth, HBU got a walk-off win on a balk for a 4-3 victory. The Pride took the first game of the doubleheader, 3-1, Friday afternoon at Constellation Field.
 
In game two, junior centerfielder Austin Roccaforte went 3-for-4 and scored a run, while junior first baseman Brennen Bales doubled. Senior shortstop Jake Miller went 1-for-4 and scored a run. Junior catcher Parker Edwards doubled and drove in a run.
 
Senior righthander Andrew Reitmeyer (1-0) picked up the win. Starter Daxton Tinker allowed one run on five hits with four strikeouts and a walk in five innings and junior Matthew Charles allowed a run on four hits with two strikeouts in three innings of relief.
 
Steve Harrington delivered a two-run, pinch hit home run in the ninth. Santino Rosso went 2-for-5 with a run. Anthony D'Onofrio was 3-for-4.
 
Michael O'Hanlon (0-1) took the loss, allowing a run on two hits in two innings. Starter John Mikolaicyk gave up three runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
 
In the bottom of the ninth, Bales led off with a double and was lifted for pinch runner senior Lane Botkin. Junior third baseman moved the runner over with a sacrifice bunt and junior rightfielder Logan Letney was intentionally walked. O'Hanlon then balked in the winning run.
 
In the first game, Bales and Diego Davila each doubled for the Huskies.
 
Junior Ethan Abbott (0-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits with a strikeouts and two walks in 4.2 innings.
 
Kevin Bruggeman went 2-for-3 with a solo home run for the Pride, while Sean Flaherty delivered the key hit of the game with a two-run double in the fifth.
 
Mark Faello (1-0) went the distance for Hofstra, giving up a run on four hits with five strikeouts in seven innings.
 
The series concludes Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Constellation Field.
