HOUSTON – The HBU men's and women's track & field teams took part in their final meet ahead of the 2022 Southland Conference Indoor Championships on Friday at the Howie Ryan Invitation.
Senior
Jessica Rabius continued her streak of record-setting performances, winning the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.70 to win the event and better her own program record in the event. She has now set a new program record in four consecutive meets.
Zara Richardson set a new PR in the 800m with a time of 2:19.62.
In the men's 800m,
Travis Jacobs placed fourth overall with a time of 1:54.47.
Ben Drew and
Justice Artisst each set new PR marks in the 3,000 meters with times of 8:25.41 and 8:27.86, respectively. In the men's mile,
Nate Allen posted a PR mark of 4:21.58 while
Stephen Aguilar also set a new personal best of 4:28.11.
Charlie O'Block qualified for the semis in the 60 meter hurdles with a prelims mark of 7.07 before improving on that with a PR time of 7.00. In the women's 60m,
Macey Morris posted a time of 7.90 and
Joelonce Hubbard crossed in 8.11 to each qualify for the semis.
Garrett Gibson placed third in the finals of 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.05 in the finals.
Kemaya Linton recorded the fastest time in the women's 400 meter this season, winning the event with a time of 57.52.
In the long jump,
Destiny Nkeonye placed third with a PR distance of 7.05m/23-1.75 while
Meike Verdaasdonk took second on the women's side with PR mark of 5.68m/18-7.75. Jasiah Vaquera posted a mark of 13.90m/45-7.25 in the men's triple jump while
Ameire Johnson-Bordelon recorded a jump of 11.66m/38-3.25 in the women's triple jump. HBU posted another pair of top-three finishes in the 4x400 relays with the women's relay team of Linton,
Ashlyn Dobson, Rabius and
Kaitlin Smith placing second with a time of 3:49.98. The men's 4x400 relay of Gibson,
Scott Boon, Jacobs and O'Block finished in 3:20.47 to place third.
The Southland Conference Indoor Championships are set for Feb. 27-28 in Birmingham, Ala. at the Birmingham Crossplex.
