THIBODAUX, La. – The HCU women placed fifth behind
Jessica Rabius while
Justice Artisst led the men, who placed seventh, at the Southland Conference Cross Country Championships on Friday morning at Nicholls Farm. Houston Christian University (HCU), formerly Houston Baptist University (HBU), underwent a name change in September 2022.
All five HCU women who scored did so with new 6k PR times, led by senior
Jessica Rabius who placed sixth with a time of 21:10.64 to earn second team all-conference honors. Freshman Destiny Quintanilla was next for the Huskies, placing 18
th with a time of 21:54.39, followed by Arlette Concepcion with a time of 22:09.72 to finish 22
nd. Eline Mast posted a time of 22:57.77 to cross in 32
nd place with Isabel Case coming in 41
st with a time of 23:27.09.
In the men's 8k, Artisst picked up second team all-SLC honors thanks to a 10
th-place finish in 24:23.38 for a new PR. The rest of the HCU men's top-five also set new PRs, including
Isaiah Price who finished in 25:35.32 to place 31
st. In 35

Nate Allen, with a mark of 25:50.36, followed by
Travis Jacobs in 36
th with a time of 25:53.70. Krzysztof Turski finished 41
st with a time of 26:06.81.
The HCU women placed fifth overall out of 10 teams with 118 points, 15 points behind fourth-place McNeese. The men totaled 152 points to place seventh, nine points behind Texas A&M-Commerce in sixth.
The NCAA South Central Regional Championships are set for Friday, Nov. 11, in Bryan-College Station, Texas.
