BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas –
Garrett Gibson broke a program record in the 60 meter hurdles and
Jessica Rabius improved upon her own school record in the mile to lead the HBU track & field team at the Texas Aggie Invitational on Saturday.
Gibson broke the 60h record in the prelims, winning his heat and posting the fastest time of the prelims with a mark of 7.96. He then placed third in the finals, crossing in 8.09. The senior also set a new PR in the 400 meters with a time of 49.11.
Rabius' improvement on her own record in the mile came on a first place finish with a time of 4:50.11, shaving nearly a full 10 seconds off her previous best. She also placed fourth in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:18.30.
Isaiah Cash matched his long jump from last week, leaping 7.09m/22-3.25 in the long jump, placing second. In the women's long jump,
Brianna Brand took fifth with a jump of 5.58m/18-3.75 while Meike Veraasdonk jumped 5.53m/18-1.75 and finished sixth.
Freshman
Arlette Concepcion posted a fifth place finish in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:21.91 while
Ben Drew was the team's top finisher in the men's 3,000, crossing in 8:35.12. In the men's 60 meter dash,
Charlie O'Block crossed in 7.05 in the prelims to qualify for the finals. In the finals, he placed seventh with a time of 7.06.
The next meet for the Huskies will be next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 28-29, across town at the University of Houston G5 & Super 22 Invitational.
