EUGENE, Ore. – After day one of the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field, HBU senior
Denim Rogers stands in 16
th place in the decathlon while junior
Scott Boon was unable to start the final event.
The multi-event opened with the 100 meter dash with Rogers finishing in 11.08 for 843 points while Boon clocked a time of 11.20. Next up, in the long jump, Rogers added another 753 points with a top mark of 6.74m/22-1.50 but Boon fouled on all three attempts and did not pick up any points.
Rogers then picked up 637 points with a throw of 12.51m/41-0.5 in the shot put and cleared 1.95m/6-4.75 in the high jump for another 758 points. Boon, meanwhile, fouled on two of his three attempts with a mark of 10.23m/33-6.75 for 499 points and cleared a height of 1.83m/6-0 in the high jump for 653 points. Boon then didn't run the 400 meters but Rogers ran 49.54, sixth-best among the competitors, for 836 points to bring his five event total to 3,827.
Day two of the decathlon begins at 11:30 a.m. CST on Thursday, June 10, with the 110 meter hurdles.
