EUGENE, Ore. – On day two of the heptathlon at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships senior
Kaitlin Smith closed the day with a PR in the 800 and moved up four spots to 13
th for second team All-America status after standing 17
th after day one.
Smith earned her first career All-America designation with a total of 5,520 points. In the first event of the day, the long jump, she leapt 5.79m/19-0 on her third attempt for 786 points. She then picked up 535 points in the javelin with a throw of 33.07m/108-6. Finally, she closed the day in the 800 meters with a PR time of 2:15.19, improving on her previous best by more than two seconds, for 890 points.
Smith earns the first All-America honors of her career after entering the outdoor championships ranked 22
nd in the heptathlon.
